A tragic kidnapping occurred in Ondo State when gunmen, suspected to be kidnappers, abducted Anglican priest Rev.
Canon Olowolagba, his wife, and two children. The family was traveling along the Ise Akoko-Iboropa road in Akoko North-East Local Government Area when the assailants ambushed them on Thursday, forcing them out of their vehicle and into the nearby forest.
The kidnappers initially demanded a hefty ransom of ₦75 million for the family’s release. Bishop Rt. Rev. Babajide Bada of the Akoko Anglican Diocese confirmed the incident, which took place between 4:00 and 5:30 p.m. The victims included Rev. Canon Olowolagba, his wife Mrs. Olowolagba, their 16-year-old daughter Goodness Olowolagba (a first-year student at Adekunle Ajasin University), and a nine-year-old girl, Idowu, who was staying with them.
The family had been traveling from Ikaram-Akoko to Ipesi-Akoko when the abduction occurred. Church members only realized something was amiss the following morning when the family did not return. The kidnappers reduced their ransom demand to₦10 million but later raised it to₦15 million, further complicating efforts to secure their release.
This shocking incident highlights the ongoing security concerns in the region, as the families involved continue to hope for their safe return.
