Popular British rapper Stormzy has been handed a 9-month driving ban in the UK after he was caught using his mobile phone while driving his Rolls-Royce.
The incident occurred in West Kensington, London, on March 7, 2024, when an off-duty police officer spotted him behind the wheel.
Appearing at Wimbledon Magistrates' Court, Stormzy, whose real name is Michael Omari, pleaded guilty via letter. District Judge Andrew Sweet criticized Stormzy's "dangerous and irresponsible" behavior and highlighted his less-than-ideal driving history. As a result, Stormzy was fined £2,010 ($2,498) and had six penalty points added to his license.
Before this incident, Stormzy already had 6 points on his license from a prior speeding offense. In the UK, drivers can be banned if they accumulate 12 or more points on their license within a 3-year period.
