Nigerian artists won the majority of the prizes at the 8th All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA), which took place on January 15, 2023, in Dakar, Senegal, demonstrating the continued dominance of the Nigerian music industry in Africa.

Burna Boy, a popularly known Burna from Nigeria, won the prizes for Best Album and Best African Act, and Asake, a singer who dominated 2022 with an unprecedented run, took home the prize for Breakout Artist of the Year.

Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun, better known as Wizkid, won the Best West African Act prize, while singer David Adeleke, aka Davido, won the Best Inspirational Song award for "Stand Strong" and the Best African Pop award for "High" with Adekunle Gold.

The eighth award ceremony, the first to be held in a French-speaking nation and broadcast in over 84 nations worldwide, aimed to introduce African musicians to international markets while embracing the diversity and history of the continent.

Nigeria hosted most of the events in the past, including the last one in Lagos in 2021, where Malian singer Ibrahim Mahamadou Fily Sissoko, known as Iba One, clinched the Best Album award.
