Legendary rapper Sean Carter, widely known as Jay-Z, has strongly denied allegations accusing him of statutory rape involving a 13-year-old girl alongside embattled music mogul Sean Combs, aka Diddy, in the year 2000.
The allegations were brought forward in a civil lawsuit filed by attorney Tony Buzbee, which has sparked widespread controversy. In a swift and fiery response shared on his social media platforms on Sunday, Jay-Z dismissed the claims as “false and an act of blackmail.”
Jay-Z’s statement read in part:
“My lawyer received a blackmail attempt, called a demand letter, from a ‘lawyer’ named Tony Buzbee. What he calculated was that the nature of these allegations and the public scrutiny would make me want to settle. No sir, it had the opposite effect! It made me want to expose you for the fraud you are in a very public fashion. So no, I will not give you one red penny!”
The rapper called for justice, urging the accuser to take the matter to criminal court rather than pursuing a civil lawsuit:
“These allegations are so heinous in nature that I implore you to file a criminal complaint, not a civil one! Whomever would commit such a crime against a minor should be locked away, would you not agree? These alleged victims would deserve real justice if that were the case.”
This comes amidst ongoing scrutiny of Diddy, who was recently arrested by Homeland Security in September on charges including sex trafficking, racketeering conspiracy, and interstate transportation for prostitution.
The case has drawn significant attention due to the high-profile nature of the individuals involved. While Jay-Z remains resolute in denying the claims, the call for criminal action may escalate the case to a new level of legal and public attention.
