One of the musician's greatest regrets, according to the 64-year-old, was announcing at Wembley in 1981 that he was giving up his career after two years of enormous global success.

"It's easy to look at all the mistakes that you made and wish that you could go back and fix them," he told Big Issue magazine. But the mistakes are what give your current life its shape. So, if you go back and make the necessary corrections, your life's course may be altered. I made some really serious errors; the most obvious one was retiring at Wembley.

Gary acknowledged, however, that he has also made errors in his personal life.

There are some really important things I wish I had never said, people I have offended and regret greatly, and undoubtedly the way I let my parents down at school. However, it is because of those errors that I have lived the life I have.

The singer of "Cars" also admitted that he struggled with fame and how it affected his life.
