Renowned Afrobeats sensation Oludipe Oluwasanmi David, famously known as Spyro, has opened up about the immense financial pressure he faces as a celebrity.
The “Who’s Your Guy” hitmaker revealed he spends over ₦15 million annually supporting beggars and fans seeking help.
Taking to Instagram, Spyro shared the emotional toll of constantly being approached for assistance, both online and offline, often without any gratitude in return. Despite his generosity, he recounted a disheartening experience when a stranger hurled insults at him for not giving money on the spot.
“Being a celebrity in Lagos is tough,” Spyro wrote. “I told a guy I didn’t have anything at that moment and would see him the next day, but he insulted me. Every day I step out of my house, I spend at least ₦100k on gifts. Let’s do the math—if I go out three times a week, that’s ₦300k weekly, ₦1.2 million monthly, and about ₦15 million a year. Kilode!”
The singer’s heartfelt revelation highlights the immense expectations placed on celebrities and the challenges of balancing kindness with personal boundaries.
