Cole has publicly apologized to his fellow artist Kendrick Lamar for previously dissing him. The incident occurred during J. Cole's performance at the 2024 Dreamville Festival in North Carolina, where he paused to address the matter.

In his statement, J. Cole expressed regret over his past remarks towards Lamar, particularly on the track '7 Minute Drill,' where he criticized Lamar's career trajectory. He acknowledged that the diss did not align with his values and caused internal conflict.

During his performance, J. Cole announced his decision to remove the diss track from streaming platforms and emphasized his respect and admiration for Kendrick Lamar's musical talent. He urged the audience to recognize Lamar's contributions to hip-hop and referred to him as one of the greatest artists of all time.

This public apology marks a significant moment of reconciliation between the two artists and highlights J. Cole's commitment to integrity and humility in the music industry.

J. Cole said, “I’m so proud of my latest project, ‘Might Delete Later,’ excerpt for one part. Is one part of that sh*t that made me feel like that is the lamest sh*t I ever did in my f*cking life… I struggled with my spirit to put out the Kendrick Lamar’s diss. That sh*t doesn’t sit right with my spirit. That sh*t disrupt my peace.
“What I want to say tonight is that in the midst of me doing that sh*t and downplaying this n*gga’s [Lamar’s] catalogue and his greatness, I want to say right now tonight, how many people think Kendrick Lamar is one of the greatest to ever to pick up a microphone?
“Dreamville, I love Kendrick Lamar. I pray that my n*gga [Lamar] didn’t feel bad. I haven’t been sleeping right the last few days…We taking that diss off streaming services.”
