Nigerian music sensation Ayra Starr made history at the 2025 MOBO Awards, emerging as the joint top winner at the prestigious event held at Newcastle’s Utilita Arena on Tuesday night.
The Mavin Records star secured two major awards—Best African Act and Best International Act, cementing her status as a global force in music.
Ayra Starr clinched the Best International Act award against some of the biggest names in the industry, including Beyoncé, Nicki Minaj, Kendrick Lamar, Megan Thee Stallion, Tems, Asake, and Tyla.
She also dominated the Best African Act category, outshining Asake, Rema, Tems, Burna Boy, and Tyla. This victory makes her the first female artist to win the award in 16 years, a groundbreaking achievement.
Meanwhile, British rapper Central Cee continued his historic run, winning Best Male Act for the third consecutive year, tying the record for the most MOBO wins by a rapper.
British-Nigerian singer Darkoo took home the Best Female Act award, beating top contenders like RAYE, Jorja Smith, Little Simz, Cleo Sol, and Nia Archives.
With Ayra Starr’s record-breaking success, this year’s MOBO Awards proved to be a night of triumph, talent, and history-making moments.
