Rema attributes his musical inspiration to Fela, Burna Boy, Wizkid, and Don Jazzy. Some Nigerians reacted negatively to his statement, accusing him of lying and pursuing power.

'Because Rema was not born when Fela began singing, how did his voice inspire him?' Many people reacted after watching Rema's film about the artists who affected him.

They went on to say that he is only attempting to famz Wizkid because Rema has stated in interviews that his teammates have nothing to do with his sound.

Rema also got dragged for not identifying Davido as his inspiration, especially after OBO brought him out during his performance at Rick Ross’s concert.
