The Nigerian entertainment industry is in mourning as veteran Nollywood actor Dejumo Lewis has passed away at the age of 80.



The news was confirmed by fellow actor Saidi Balogun, who shared a heartfelt tribute on his Instagram account this Saturday.

In a post accompanied by a photo of the late actor, Saidi Balogun bid farewell, saying, "Good night DEJUMO LEWIS, may your soul rest in perfect peace. RIP."

While the specific circumstances of Lewis' passing have not been disclosed, Balogun's tribute has sparked an outpouring of condolences from fans, as well as fellow actors and actresses who admired Lewis for his illustrious career.

Dejumo Lewis made an indelible mark in the Nigerian film and television industry, gaining fame for his iconic role as Kabiyesi in "The Village Headmaster." The television soap opera, which aired on NTA from 1968 to 1988, featured a stellar cast including Justus Esiri and Femi Robinson, leaving a lasting legacy in Nigerian television history.

Apart from his memorable portrayal in "The Village Headmaster," Lewis showcased his acting prowess in notable films such as "A Place in the Stars" (2014), "Crossroads" (2020), and "Power of 1" (2018). His contributions to the Nigerian entertainment landscape will be remembered by fans and colleagues alike as they reflect on the loss of a true industry legend.
