Temilade Openiyi, aka Tems, a Grammy-winning singer from Nigeria, took home two honors on Wednesday.
On September 6, 2023, in London, United Kingdom, at the ELLE Style Awards, the Oscar-nominated diva won the Trailblazer Award.
Naomi Ackie, a BAFTA-winning actress, and BBC Radio 1 host Julie Adenuga presented Tems with her award, which she accepted in person.
In her acceptance speech, the ‘Essence’ crooner said she has her upbringing in Lagos, Nigeria, and faith to thank for her career success so far.
On the other side of the Atlantic, Tems was named the Songwriter of the Year at the 2023 BMI R&B/Hip-Hop Awards held at the LIV Nightclub in Miami Beach on September 6, 2023.
She was honored for her songwriting contributions to Future and Drake's "Wait For U," Rihanna's "Lift Me Up," and "Free Mind."
