An Indianapolis mother, Chantell Gardner, 33, has been charged with neglect resulting in the death of her 2-year-old daughter, Skylar Gardner.
Mother Left Kids Home Alone to Visit Boyfriend
According to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD), Chantell allegedly left her 2-year-old daughter and 4-year-old son home alone while she spent hours at her boyfriend’s house. Reports indicate that this was a routine habit, with Chantell occasionally returning home for quick check-ins.
Mother Discovers Daughter Unresponsive
On January 25, during one of her check-ins, Chantell reportedly found Skylar unresponsive under a dresser in their apartment. Panicked, she called 911.
When police arrived, she claimed she had been preparing dinner and called her children to eat. While her 4-year-old son responded, Skylar did not. After searching the home, she discovered her daughter cold to the touch and not breathing.
