Former US President Donald Trump has issued a stern warning to Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau over his decision to impose retaliatory tariffs on American goods.

Taking to Truth Social on Tuesday, Trump cautioned that the United States would immediately respond with an equal tariff hike if Canada goes through with its countermeasures.

"Please explain to Governor Trudeau, of Canada, that when he puts on a Retaliatory Tariff on the U.S., our Reciprocal Tariff will immediately increase by a like amount!" Trump wrote.

The warning follows Trudeau’s announcement of a 25% tariff on $155 billion worth of US goods, set to take effect on Tuesday. The move comes in response to Trump’s executive order imposing a 25% tariff on Canadian and Mexican imports.

Tensions between the US and Canada continue to escalate as both nations brace for the economic impact of the tariff war.
