Zimbabwean Electoral Commission (ZEC) today Friday 3rd of August 2018 declared Emmerson Mnangagwa of ZANU-PF as the winner of the first post Mugabe election in the country.
The declared result shows that Emmerson passes the 50 per cent benchmark for a first round victory by 0.8 per cent by securing 50.8 per cent of the total votes while his close rival from Movement For Democratic Change (MDC) Nelson Chamisa had 44.3 per cent.It can be recalled that before the official announcement of the result by ZEC today, Nelson had declared himself as the winner of the highly competitive election few hours after he casted his own vote.Meanwhile, the Chairman of the opposition party Morgan Komichi has rejected the result and he claims that the figure announced by ZEC today has been manipulated during the delay of the election's result and therefore render the result declared today to be false.The 75 years old newly elected President who has been the acting President of the country since the bloodless coup last year November which marked the end of Mugabe's reign in the country has tweeted that he his "humbled" to be the winner of the election and he enjoins other contestants to join hands together in unity and love in order for them to have a new Zimbabwe.In the meantime, police have stormed the opposition party headquarters and detain over 15 people and also troops are parading the street of Harare to suppress any form of violence in the city.
