At the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) in Lagos, an official of Partfinder International Limited, an aviation security company, has been arrested for attempting to dispatch a suspected illicit drug through a departing Ibom Air flight to Accra, Ghana.

According to a statement released by Obiageli Orah, the Director of Public Affairs & Consumer Protection, the employee in question approached a passenger, seeking assistance in conveying a parcel through the flight. However, the passenger grew suspicious and raised the alarm, fearing he was being set up for drug trafficking.

Addressing the incident, the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) clarified that the officer depicted in a circulating video being manhandled is not a staff member of FAAN but is associated with Pathfinder company.

The FAAN spokesperson explained, "The employee was immediately arrested for questioning by the Crime Investigation and Intelligence Unit of the Aviation Security Services. The passenger involved has since departed on Ibom Air to Accra while the medication with the name ‘NEW AGE GLUCOSAMINE CHONDROITIN SULFATE COMPLEX’ has been taken to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for further investigation."

It was also revealed that the passenger involved in the incident has been arrested for further questioning. FAAN emphasized its commitment to maintaining a drug-free environment within its airports, stating a zero-tolerance policy for drug peddling. The agency continues to collaborate with relevant authorities to ensure a thorough investigation into the matter.
