Sani Abdullahi, a teacher at Government Secondary School (GSS) Kuriga in Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State, has provided a chilling account of the recent attack by bandits on the school.

The incident, reported by Daily Trust, occurred on Thursday morning when armed assailants invaded the school premises, resulting in the abduction of both students and teachers.

Abdullahi recounted the chaos that ensued during the attack, explaining how the bandits, numbering many, forced the victims into the bush. A total of 287 students are currently held captive, with the number comprising 187 from GSS Kuriga and 125 from a nearby primary school. Fortunately, 25 pupils managed to escape and have since returned home.

Following the disturbing events, the community mobilized its vigilante group and KADVIS personnel to pursue the bandits. Unfortunately, the efforts were met with tragedy as one vigilante lost his life in the pursuit. The governor, addressing the community, expressed condolences for the loss and assured the residents of decisive action.

The governor pledged to utilize all available resources to ensure the safe return of the abducted children. He revealed that he had already engaged with the National Security Adviser, Malam Nuhu Ribadu, and emphasized the commitment of security forces to rescue the children.

Acknowledging the gravity of the security situation, the governor highlighted the need for increased boots on the ground and emphasized the importance of state police. He recognized the limitations of vigilante groups, lacking the firepower to match the bandits armed with AK-47 rifles.

Expressing personal distress over the incident, the governor reassured the community that every child in Kaduna State is considered his own. He urged the community not to be disheartened and announced plans to establish a committee comprising seven members from the affected community. This committee would engage in ongoing discussions with the government to address the aftermath of the attack and work towards securing the release of the abducted students.
