FIRS has received feedback from the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) regarding a flier shared on the social media platforms bearing the headline "Jesus paid your debts, not your taxes.

"

FIRS has now clarified that the intention behind the message was not to belittle the significance of Jesus Christ or undermine the immense sacrifice He made for humanity during Easter.

FIRS's aim in sharing this message was to creatively engage taxpayers and emphasize the importance of fulfilling their civic duty by paying taxes. While FIRS understands that the message may have stirred controversy in certain circles and unintentionally conveyed a different meaning, FIRS appreciates CAN's acknowledgment that the intent was to encourage taxpayer engagement.

FIRS sincerely apologizes for any misinterpretation caused by the post and any offense it may have sparked among Christians. As a responsible government agency, FIRS maintains a stance of religious neutrality and upholds respect for all faiths in our diverse society. FIRS's primary objective is to assess, collect, and account for revenue for the betterment of the nation, viewing tax compliance as an investment in Nigeria's progress.

FIRS extends sincere apologies to CAN and members of the Christian community who felt offended by the unintended implications of our message on Easter Sunday.
