The ad hoc committee established by the Kaduna State House of Assembly to scrutinize the finances, loans, and contracts awarded under former governor Nasir El-Rufai has submitted its report.

During the plenary session on Wednesday, committee chairman Henry Zacharia presented the findings, revealing that many of the loans obtained during El-Rufai’s administration were not utilized for their intended purposes, and due process was often bypassed in securing these loans.

The Speaker of the Kaduna House of Assembly, Yusuf Liman, received the report, stating that a total of N423 billion was misappropriated by El-Rufai’s administration, leaving the state with significant liabilities.

The committee recommended that El-Rufai and several members of his cabinet be investigated and prosecuted by security and anti-corruption agencies for abuse of office, including the awarding of contracts without due process, diversion of public funds, and money laundering, which have heavily indebted Kaduna State.

Additionally, the committee called for the immediate suspension of the current Kaduna State Commissioner of Finance, Shizer Badda, who also held the same position under El-Rufai’s administration, as well as the chairman of the state universal basic education board.

The report also urged thorough investigations of key appointees from the previous administration by appropriate law enforcement and anti-corruption agencies.

The committee's mandate was to examine loans, grants, and project implementations from 2015 to 2023, covering the period during which El-Rufai served as governor of Kaduna State.
