Kayode Fayemi, the former Governor of Ekiti State and ex-Chairman of the Nigerian Governors Forum, has expressed appreciation for the decision of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to cancel and reschedule the contentious gubernatorial primaries in Edo State. In a commendatory statement, Fayemi praised the National Working Committee led by Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje for the move, emphasizing that it restored confidence in a fair, impartial, and transparent electoral process for the Edo State chapter of the party.

Acknowledging the pivotal role played by the President and APC Leader, HE Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, Fayemi commended him for refraining from interference and allowing due process to prevail in the matter of the APC gubernatorial primaries in Edo State. He expressed gratitude to the President for permitting the party to operate independently on this sensitive issue, assuring members in Edo State that the forthcoming gubernatorial primaries would be conducted in a manner that is free, fair, and transparent.

However, Fayemi did not mince words when it came to criticizing the actions of Senator Adams Oshiomhole, the former governor of Edo State and National Chairman of the APC. He strongly condemned Oshiomhole's questionable role in disrupting the initial exercise, citing a pattern of interference that had detrimental effects in the last gubernatorial election in Edo State.

Fayemi highlighted Oshiomhole's past attempts to eliminate certain aspirants from the primaries, stating, "Ideally, as a leader, he should have ensured a level playing field for all the aspirants, but he was trying to impose a candidate in a manner that's not free and fair."

Drawing parallels to Oshiomhole's previous actions that led to the party's loss in Edo State, Fayemi emphasized the need for an open, free, and transparent process in the rescheduled primaries. He urged that the party put its best foot forward, expressing hope that the forthcoming elections would be conducted in a manner deemed fair by all stakeholders.

Fayemi concluded, "Oshiomhole may decide to support any of the aspirants if he chooses not to be neutral, but the process must be open, free, and transparent, following the laid-down rules. My interest is the APC, and the party must put its best foot forward in the forthcoming elections."
