Lekki Port, Nigeria's most modern and deepest seaport, has successfully hosted the MAERSK EDIRNE, a colossal container vessel boasting a capacity of 13,092 TEUs.

This momentous occasion marks the largest container vessel ever to berth in Nigeria to date.

On Sunday, January 21, 2024, at precisely 14:42 hours, the MAERSK EDIRNE made its historic docking at Lekki Port, ushering in a new era for maritime operations in the country.

Part of the CMA CGM WAX service, the MAERSK EDIRNE is among the 13 impressive container vessels operating along crucial routes, including Xiamen, Qingdao, Shanghai, Singapore, Lekki Port, and Abidjan.

This development is a significant milestone in Nigeria's maritime history as Lekki Port proudly becomes an integral part of the esteemed CMA CGM West Africa express service. It stands as the sole port in Nigeria within this remarkable port rotation, showcasing Lekki Port's capacity to accommodate massive container vessels and solidifying its role as a key player in global trade.

With a length overall (LOA) of 366 meters and a width of 48 meters, the MAERSK EDIRNE is a testament to the port's capability to handle vessels of unparalleled size.

This achievement is not only a win for Nigeria but also signals the commencement of a new era marked by maritime excellence.

Keep an eye out for weekly calls of 13,000/14,000 TEUs vessels, as Lekki Port continues to make strides in the maritime industry. Special appreciation goes to the NPA team of pilots and other dedicated professionals whose expertise ensured the safe berthing of the MAERSK EDIRNE.

Anticipation is building for the next monumental event, as the magnificent CMA CGM SCANDOLA, an LNG-powered vessel with a carrying capacity of 14,000 TEUs, is scheduled to call at Lekki Port on January 29. Stay tuned for more updates on Lekki Port's journey towards becoming a hub for maritime excellence.
