Senator Rochas Okorocha, former Governor of Imo State, has addressed and dismissed recent rumors suggesting his demise.
Okorocha attributed these false claims to envy over the warm reception he received during the funeral of Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, the President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, according to a report by News360 Nigeria.
The statement, issued by Sam Onwuemeodo, Okorocha’s Special Adviser on Media, expressed shock at the “breaking news” circulated by unidentified sources on November 6, 2024, alleging that Okorocha had died in a London hospital from a fabricated condition described as “acute gorilla.”
Onwuemeodo’s statement clarified that Okorocha was not only present in Owerri for the funeral but also in excellent health, noting that he has not experienced any illness since his departure from office in 2019.
“To all men and women of conscience,” the statement read, “the true breaking news is that Rochas Okorocha is neither sick nor dead. He has been hale and hearty during his stay in Owerri and has continued attending events, including services in Abuja honoring prominent Igbo leaders like Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu.”
The statement further criticized the creators of the rumor, describing them as “dead in spirit” and accusing them of resenting the positive response Okorocha received at the funeral. Okorocha expressed compassion for those responsible, calling for collective prayers for their spiritual well-being and stating that he holds no ill will toward them.
“The individuals who spread this story are upset by the ovation Okorocha received,” the statement continued. “We do not curse those whom God has blessed. Instead, we hope for their genuine repentance and a return to a fulfilling life. We pray for them,” the statement concluded.
