Even though, the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC has declared the winner of February 23 Presidential election, INEC has set to hold the supplementary elections on March 9, the same day as the earlier scheduled governorship and state Houses of Assembly elections.

This was made known by Festus Okoye, INEC’s national commissioner for information and voter education, who said the supplementary polls will be conducted in areas where the poll was cancelled last Saturday, alongside the governorship and state houses of assembly elections.

He said the decision was reached during the commission’s meeting with resident electoral commissioners (RECs) on Thursday in Abuja.

INEC had cancelled the presidential elections in some areas as a result of violence in River state as well as other parts of Lagos and Anambra states.

This development has been generating a lot of condemnation from Nigerians who see the election as not a necessary thing since the outcome of the election can hardly alter the already declared election results.
