In Anambra State, a local security outfit has reportedly declared its intention to arrest women who are seen in public without wearing bras or panties.

This announcement, which has sparked widespread debate, was made via a public address system and captured in a video that has since gone viral on social media. The footage, initially shared on the platform X (formerly known as Twitter) on Sunday, has triggered mixed reactions from the public, with many questioning the rationale and enforcement strategy behind the directive.

In the viral video, an official from the security group can be heard delivering the announcement in the Igbo language. The officer explicitly stated that the directive originated from the state governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo. According to the announcement, any woman found in public without undergarments would be subject to arrest. The official went further to clarify that even women wearing only panties without bras, or vice versa, would be apprehended under the new rule.

The declaration has caused a stir across social media platforms, drawing reactions from both residents of the state and concerned citizens from other parts of the country. One of the most notable reactions came from former Kaduna State Senator, Shehu Sani, who took to his X account on Monday to voice his concerns and skepticism regarding the feasibility of enforcing the rule. In his post, Senator Sani questioned whether the so- called " pant law" applied solely to women or if men might also be subject to similar scrutiny. He humorously inquired how the security outfit intended to verify compliance with the directive without infringing on privacy rights.
