Salu-Hundeyin emphasized that national security is a collective responsibility, and serving in the military is a vital contribution to both the state and the nation. She expressed concern that Lagos indigenous youth have not been showing interest in joining the military, as evidenced by the state's low participation in recent recruitment exercises.

She pointed out that the Federal Government has allocated equal recruitment slots across all states, with each state given 150 positions. However, Lagos State has been underrepresented in these numbers. "We discovered that Lagos State is being seriously short-changed in the military because we hardly have our people there. This is an opportunity we cannot allow to slip away again,” she said.

Salu-Hundeyin stressed the importance of viewing national security as everyone’s business. While not everyone can serve in uniform, the government provides opportunities for those willing to take up the responsibility. Unfortunately, she noted that many young people in Lagos do not see the military as a viable option, which ultimately hurts the state's representation in national security matters.

“If your state does not participate, you are short-changing your state,” she added, urging families and communities to encourage their children to consider military service as a noble and necessary profession for both state and national security.
