The Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA) has shut down several establishments, including churches, hotels, restaurants, and lounges, for excessive noise pollution across Lagos.
In a statement released on Monday, the General Manager of LASEPA, Dr. Dolapo Fasawe, confirmed the move as part of the agency’s intensified efforts to tackle environmental violations that endanger public health and safety.
The crackdown, targeting noise pollution hotspots, affected locations in Shomolu, Jakande-Lekki, Oniru Victoria Island, Badore Ajah, Sangotedo, Lekki-Epe Expressway, Lekki II, Ogombo, and Lekki Phase 1, among others.
Among the establishments sealed were Celestial Church, The Lord’s Chosen Church, Mountain of Fire and Miracles Church, Zodiac Lounge, Pixel Park Studio, Sneakers Suites & Bar, Handsworth Hotel, Wimpy Hotel, SBL Hotels, West Syde Exclusive Hotel & Suites, and Kobis Restaurant.
"Noise pollution disrupts community peace and impacts health significantly," Dr. Fasawe noted. "This enforcement demonstrates our zero-tolerance policy for defaulters and highlights our commitment to upholding environmental laws across Lagos."
The agency emphasized the need for stricter adherence to environmental standards, warning violators to comply or face similar actions.
By addressing noise pollution, LASEPA aims to promote a healthier, quieter, and more harmonious Lagos.
