In light of the paramount importance the Lagos State Government places on the safety of its residents, a significant step has been taken to address the state of the heavily frequented pedestrian bridge at Alapere/Estate Bus Stop on the Third Axial Road.

Today, the State Government has affirmed its commitment to ensuring the immediate commencement of construction works on the damaged bridge.

A dedicated team of Lagos State Government Officials, representing the Ministry of Transportation, Office of Infrastructure, Material Testing Laboratory, and Public Works Corporation, conducted an on-site inspection to assess the extent of damage to the bridge. Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, during this visit, highlighted the closure of the bridge ascent and outlined plans to deploy additional traffic personnel. These measures aim to intermittently halt traffic to facilitate safe pedestrian passage. Furthermore, visual displays will be implemented at night to enhance pedestrian safety. Signages and visual alerts are also slated for installation to keep pedestrians and commuters informed during the ongoing investigations and repair works.

Special Adviser to the Governor on Infrastructure, Engineer Olufemi Daramola, emphasized the immediate assessment of the bridge's condition. This evaluation will pave the way for comprehensive integrity tests on the substructure, enabling the determination of the extent of damage. Subsequently, the level of reconstruction required to restore the bridge for continued public use will be ascertained. The State Government's commitment to prioritizing safety and swift action is evident in these proactive measures taken to address the situation.
