In the tense Oshodi neighborhood of Lagos State, suspected political thugs attacked a number of polling places on Saturday.
Most of the locations were conducting presidential and National Assembly voting when the attackers broke in.
There are several videos of the incident, including one from PU EC 30 B and another from Ogun Oloko Street near Oja Mafoluku in Oshodi.
Residents screamed as the thugs, who were numerous and armed with guns and machetes, approached.
In addition to destroying polling places, burning ballots, and removing some boxes, they also moved around on buses and motorcycles.
In the Ikate Elegushi region, there were comparable incidents.
Joey Akan, a journalist and podcaster, detailed his ordeal on Twitter.
“Thugs have destroyed ballot boxes and thrown away the ballot papers at Oba Elegushi."
“I collected a couple of slaps for fighting back before I got pulled from the melee and into a house for my safety."
“Now I have to be smuggled out of the voting area because I have been marked,” Akan tweeted.
