The leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, is traumatised by the activities of unknown gunmen in the South-East region, his lawyer, Ifeanyi Ejiofor, noted.
Ejiofor said during the routine visit of the legal team to Kanu in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS) on Thursday, the agitator condemned the atrocities committed by unknown gunmen.
According to Ejiofor, Kanu’s view is that the criminals have taken advantage of his absence.
Also, according to the statement, Kanu expressed grief that he was being detained as part of the struggle to ensure the independence of the South-East region but criminal elements have chosen to take advantage of his detention to kill the same people he has been fighting for.
Kanu urged the people of the region to put their hands together and put a stop to the activities of "state-sponsored" criminals in the region.
The statement reads, “Consistent with the subsisting court-ordered guidelines, we visited our amiable client, Onyendu Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, today."
As you were earlier informed, Onyendu’s case, which was earlier scheduled for ruling/hearing today, being the 26th day of May, 2022, was adjourned to the 28th day of June, 2022, and as such, Onyendu could not be in court today.
“The adjournment of his case formed an integral part of our briefing, as did our readiness to await the all-important ruling, now to be delivered on the 28th day of June 2022."
Nevertheless, Onyendu remained unshaken by this new twist, as he strongly believes that justice delayed is not justice denied.
Furthermore, Onyendu reiterated the fact that his present travail is not too big a sacrifice towards freeing his most cherished and loved race from their present bondage. Hence, he implored all and sundry to remain resolute, firm and be civilly guided in their actions and conduct as they have always been.
“It is pertinent to note that Onyendu was heartbroken by the news of the heinous activities of unscrupulous criminals in the South-East as well as the senseless killings being carried out by these enemies of our people.
Onyendu roundly condemned the barbaric activities of these criminals and specifically directed me to make his position on the sacrilegious activities of these blood-sucking demons known to the public.
Onyendu consequently extends his heartfelt condolences to the victims of these dastardly acts and directs everyone to join hands in fishing out the culprits.
Onyendu noted that he is being incarcerated today and kept in solitary confinement because he is advocating for the emancipation of our people, as he has not committed any offence known to law.
Therefore, he queried how the same people for whom he is advancing the course of their freedom and protection from the invaders should be subjected to bloody assaults by criminals who have no connection whatsoever with his freedom movement.
Therefore, Onyendu has directed that all hands be on deck to ensure an immediate end to this sacrilege.
Onyendu was visibly traumatized by the narrated troubling situation in the South-East being created by the enemies of our people who are taking advantage of his temporary absence.
It was noted that the activities of these criminals have given lawless'security agents’ an excuse to unleash wanton bloodletting and destruction on our land. Onyendu also condemned this in clear and unmistaken terms.
Furthermore, Onyendu has directed that there must be a total stop, and he meant STOP in every sense of the word, of this rising insecurity and bloody siege on our land by these criminal elements.
Onyendu admonished millions of his followers to be guided by the primary goal and never to derail. He commended Ezigbo UmuChineke for their solidarity and unflinching support. Also, he implores you all to remain focused and firm, as it is only a matter of time for you all to rejoice in the faithfulness of His words—'maka na chi folu af efona nkw’.
The opportunity presented by the visit enabled us to explore an internal mechanism to press strongly for the immediate release of Mrs. Ukamaka Ejezie (Mama Biafra). Be assured that she will regain her freedom within the shortest possible time. The details of this engagement will remain private.
“Onyendu thanked millions of you all, his followers, for your resoluteness and civility, and empathized with those who sustained injuries following an unprovoked attack by security agents during his last court appearance." These sacrifices are not taken for granted. He appreciates you all.
“Moreso, Onyendu noted that your prayers have been impactful, and encouraged you all never to relent.
“We, in the legal team, deeply appreciate you all for standing shoulder to shoulder with us, as we hope for better days ahead." Your support remains motivating, and we deeply appreciate you all. Ezigbo Umuchineke.
“Thank you all and remain blessed.”
