The Nigerian military has ramped up its offensive against infamous bandit leader Bello Turji, dealing significant blows to his criminal network in Zamfara State.

Operation Hadarin Daji’s elite forces, supported by airstrikes under Operation Fansan Yanma, have dismantled key bandit hideouts in the Fakai forest, a known stronghold in the Shinkafi Local Government Area.

In a series of highly coordinated strikes, the military destroyed several camps, including Zangon Dan Gwandi, Zangon Tsaika, and Zangon Kagara. Notably, a school allegedly used by Turji to store weapons and supplies was set ablaze to prevent it from serving as a logistical base for his operations.

Severe Losses for Turji’s Network

Intelligence sources confirmed that Turji's group suffered heavy casualties during the operation. Among those killed were Turji’s son, several of his top fighters, and prominent lieutenants. Reports also revealed that Turji made desperate calls for reinforcements from seven other bandit leaders, but none of them arrived. Adding to their setbacks, one of Turji’s spies narrowly escaped capture.

Retreat and Further Pursuit

Following the military onslaught, Turji’s fighters reportedly fled to Mangwarorin Gebe, carrying stolen livestock and other goods. Four of his men sustained injuries in earlier battles, forcing the gang into disarray.

Special Forces Lead the Charge

This meticulously planned operation is spearheaded by a special forces unit with backing from the General Officer Commanding (GOC). The Navy's Special Boat Service (SBS) has also provided critical support, ensuring the operation remains strategic and effective.

With Turji's criminal empire facing relentless attacks, the Nigerian military continues to demonstrate its resolve in dismantling banditry and restoring peace to Zamfara State.
