Addressing journalists on Thursday, Governor Obaseki emphasized the amicable nature of their relationship, stating, "The relationship, as you know, has been cordial. He (Philip) wants to run for the office I currently occupy, and he is free to." Obaseki reiterated that, as a Nigerian, Shaibu possesses the constitutional right to enter the race, and no one should impede that right.

However, Obaseki made it clear that the decision regarding the PDP's flag bearer will be determined by the party itself and its members. The forthcoming governorship election will see the party's internal processes shape the final candidate who will represent them in the race.
