Former National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Senator Iyiola Omisore, has criticized Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, for conducting what he described as illegal local government elections.

Omisore claimed the polls were a violation of court orders and an attempt to misuse council funds.

In a statement issued on Saturday, Omisore accused the state government of ignoring legal counsel and proceeding with elections despite a Court of Appeal judgment reinstating 30 council chairmen and their councillors.

“The Court of Appeal’s judgment was clear. The council chairmen and their councillors were reinstated by the temple of justice. Any attempt to conduct fresh elections is a violation of that ruling,” he said.

Omisore alleged that the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission, OSSIEC, acted under the governor’s influence to conduct what he called imaginary polls for non-existent vacancies across the councils.

He further accused Governor Adeleke of being driven by an inordinate ambition to control and misuse local government funds.

“The desperation to misuse council funds has led to this illegal exercise that will not stand the test of law and time,” Omisore stated.

The former deputy governor criticized OSSIEC for what he described as a show of shame orchestrated by its paymaster.

He warned that the governor’s actions could lead to a breakdown of law and order in the state.

“Disobeying court orders and wasting state resources is a heinous crime against democracy and humanity. The governor’s disregard for legal rulings and wise counsel is an invitation to chaos,” he said.

Omisore insisted that the responsibility for any crisis arising from the elections would rest solely on the governor.

He called on the federal authorities to take note of the situation.

“Adeleke has set the stage for a breakdown of law and order. The entire exercise is a shameless charade and an affront to democratic principles,” he stated.
