Peter Obi, former governor of Anambra State and the Labour Party's 2023 presidential candidate, has shared his plans to retire to Onitsha to teach secondary school students and inspire the next generation.

“I decided to stop by and celebrate the International Day of Education with you,” Obi said. “I felt compelled to speak to the students because tomorrow marks the school’s 100th anniversary. Education is the foundation of your future. It’s the most powerful tool and investment you need to succeed. The fact that you’re here already shows that you’re on the path to greatness.”

Obi went on to encourage the students to dream big, reminding them of their potential to rise to influential positions like governors and presidents.

Reflecting on his own journey, he shared a personal story:

“When General Gowon visited this school in 1970, I was among the students who stood at the gate to salute him and sang for him. Education transformed my life to the point where I later sat at the same table with him, making important decisions together.”

In a touching conclusion, Obi expressed his deep passion for education and his desire to contribute more directly in the future. “One day, I want to retire to Onitsha and become a teacher, so I can inspire students to achieve greatness,” he stated.
