According to the police prosecutor, Inspector Taiwo Oniyere, Adebayo purportedly struck Lekan on the head with a cooking gas cylinder following a dispute over the defendant's behavior. The tragic altercation resulted in Lekan's fatal injury, leading to his untimely demise.

"The deceased came home and expressed dissatisfaction with the defendant's behavior, prompting a confrontation. However, fueled by the influence of 'Colorado,' the defendant allegedly resorted to violence, ultimately causing the death of his friend," stated the police prosecutor.

The charges leveled against Adebayo contravene Sections 316 and 319 of the Criminal Code Law, Cap 37 Vol. 1 of Ondo State 2006, as outlined in the charge sheet.

During the court proceedings at the Akure Magistrate court, the defendant did not enter a plea, and the prosecutor requested that Adebayo be remanded at the Olokuta Correctional Centre in Akure pending legal advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

Presiding over the case, Magistrate T. O. Olusola-Olujobi ordered the defendant's remand at the Olokota Correctional Centre and scheduled the next hearing for March 19, 2024.
