Olamide Thomas, a Lagos-based woman, is set to spend Christmas in Suleja prison after allegedly posting offensive social media messages targeting Seyi Tinubu, the son of President Bola Tinubu, as well as Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun and the Tinubu family.
The charges were brought against her by the office of the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Kayode Egbetokun, after a public outcry over her controversial post.
Appearing before Justice Nwite of the Federal High Court, Olamide pleaded not guilty to three charges filed against her. As a result, the court ordered her remand in prison until December 30.
Olamide's arrest stems from accusations of harassment and threats directed at Seyi Tinubu, IG Egbetokun, and Police Public Relations Officer Muyiwa Adejobi, following her viral social media post. The charge, marked FHC/ABJ/CR/636/2024, was filed on December 18 by a police legal team led by A. A. Egwu.
During the court session, prosecutor Victor Okoye expressed readiness to proceed with the arraignment. However, Olamide's defense attorney, T.J. Aondo, SAN, attempted to submit an oral application, which was rejected by the court. Justice Nwite instructed Aondo to file a formal bail application, and the case has been adjourned to December 30 for trial.
