The raid took place in Umunkwa village, located in the Umuafai Ndume Ibeku area of Umuahia North Local Government, where ten victims were rescued. The victims, aged between one and 24 years, included seven young girls—six of whom are pregnant—one lactating mother, and two minor boys.

Following the rescue, both the suspects and the victims were handed over to NAPTIP’s Abia State Liaison Office for further investigation and appropriate action.

Prof. Fatima Waziri–Azi, the Director-General of NAPTIP, voiced her concern over the rising cases of baby trafficking and the proliferation of baby factories across the country. She emphasized the urgent need for stronger measures to combat these heinous crimes and protect vulnerable individuals from exploitation.
