In a major move aimed at addressing educational and developmental challenges in Southern Kaduna, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the establishment of a federal university in the region.
This decision is expected to significantly improve access to higher education and contribute to the overall development of Southern Kaduna.
Vice President Kashim Shettima, who made the announcement, also revealed that discussions are underway for the creation of a Federal Medical Centre in Kafanchan, further underscoring the government's commitment to improving healthcare in the region.
Shettima shared this development during a condolence visit to the Kukah family, following the passing of His Highness Yohanna Sidi Kukah, the Agwom Akulu of Ikulu Chiefdom, and a family member of Bishop Matthew Hassan Kukah of the Catholic Diocese of Sokoto. The visit took place in Ikulu Kingdom, Kamuru, within the Zangon Kataf council area of Kaduna State.
In a statement issued by Stanley Nkwocha, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications, the Vice President confirmed that the decision to establish the federal university in Southern Kaduna came after discussions with Senator Katung and a member of the House of Representatives. Tinubu gave his consent, marking a crucial step in fulfilling the region’s educational needs.
Shettima also highlighted President Tinubu's commitment to Southern Kaduna's development, noting the recent appointment of General Christopher Musa as Chief of Defence Staff as an example of the administration's focus on the region’s security needs. He assured the people of Kaduna, especially those in Southern Kaduna, that the President is deeply invested in their welfare.
Additionally, Shettima praised Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani, for his inclusive approach to governance, emphasizing the importance of fostering a sense of belonging across all parts of the state. He reiterated that the federal government would collaborate with the state government to ensure that critical infrastructure, particularly roads, reaches Southern Kaduna.
Bishop Kukah expressed his gratitude to the Vice President on behalf of the family for the visit, thanking him for his support during their time of mourning.
