At the Federal High Court in Benin City, Justice M.



S. Shuaibu sentenced Debest Osarumwense, mother of an internet fraudster, Endurance Osarumwense, to five years in prison.

Debest was charged with one count of assisting her son in receiving N91,296,150 (Ninety One Million, Two Hundred and Ninety-Six Thousand, One Hundred and Fifty Naira) as profits from his internet fraud activities by the Commission's Benin Zonal Command.

That you, Debest Osarumwense (f), sometime between January 2nd, 2020 and December 2021 in Edo State within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, did take possession of the total sum of N91,296,150.00 (Ninety One Million, Two Hundred and Ninety-six Thousand, One Hundred and Fifty Naira) knowing that same represented proceeds of Endurance Osarumwense's (your son) criminal conduct, to wit: cybercrime cybercrime cybercrime cybercrime cybercrime cybercrime cybercrime cybercrime cybercrime cybercrime cybercrime cybercrime cybercrime cybercrime cybercrime cybercrime cybercrime cybercrime cybercrime cybercrime cybercrime cybercrime cybercrime cybercrime cybercrime cybercrime cybercrime and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 17(b) of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission Establishment 2004”.

The debtest pleaded guilty during his arraignment.

The prosecution's lawyer, I. K. Agwai, asked the court to convict and sentence her in accordance with her plea.

Justice Shuaibu found the defendant guilty and sentenced him to five years in prison with the option of a N1 million fine. She must also hand over the sum in her bank account to the Nigerian government.
