A group of sports journalists has been kidnapped in the Isseke community of Ihiala Local Government Area, Anambra State, as they were traveling to Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, to cover the upcoming Nigeria vs.

Libya Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match, scheduled to take place at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium on Friday, News360 Nigeria reports.

According to a source, the journalists, about 11 in number, were traveling by bus through Isseke on Wednesday when the kidnapping occurred. By Thursday morning, it was reported that nine of the journalists had been rescued, while one, identified as Kola, was tragically found dead. Four others are still believed to be held in captivity.

Anambra State police authorities have confirmed the incident. The state police spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, stated that six members of the crew had been successfully rescued by joint security forces.

Ikenga added, "Operations are still ongoing for the possible rescue of the seventh crew member. Further updates will be communicated as developments unfold."

This situation continues to develop, with efforts underway to secure the safe return of those still in captivity.
