Real Madrid striker Vinicius Jr.
has named Karim Benzema as his favored candidate for the Ballon d'Or this year.
Vinicius revealed the news on Twitter in response to Benzema's message applauding the team's fantastic support during their Champions League semi-final second leg 3-1 victory against Manchester City on Wednesday.
"Karim balón de oro," said the Brazilian international.
Many people believe the France international deserves to be named the best player in the world this year, and his tweet echoes that sentiment.
Benzema ensured that Real Madrid progressed to a 17th UEFA Champions League final in their second leg of the Champions League semi-final clash against Man City.
The former Lyon star won and converted a penalty in the fifth minute of extra-time to win the game 3-1 and ensure that Carlo Ancelotti’s men qualified for the final on a 6-5 aggregate win.
Benzema is currently the top goal scorer in the Champions League with 15 goals.
He will hope to lead the Los Blancos to victory when they face Liverpool in the final later this month in Paris.
