The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has restated its prohibition on the use of fireworks during its competitions, particularly in the upcoming quarter-final second leg match between Algerian side USM Alger and Rivers United of Nigeria.

The clash between USM Alger and Rivers United is set to take place at the Stade du Julliet in Algiers on Sunday. While USM Alger anticipates strong support from their fans, they have cautioned against the use of fireworks, a banned substance, during the game.

In a statement posted on their X handle, USM Alger urged their loyal supporters to demonstrate sportsmanship and civilized behavior by refraining from tossing fireworks onto the field. They emphasized the potential penalties imposed by CAF for such actions, which could detrimentally affect the team's performance and overall joy.

The club emphasized the importance of responsible fan behavior, highlighting the need to maintain the team's integrity and avoid unnecessary punishment from CAF. They urged fans to channel their enthusiasm into supporting the team positively and creating a vibrant atmosphere in the stands.

Rivers United currently holds a narrow 1-0 lead going into the return leg in Algeria, setting the stage for an intense and closely contested match.
