Chelsea's pursuit of Moises Caicedo from Brighton has dealt them a new setback in the transfer market, according to co-owner Todd Boehly.

Before the end of the January transfer window, Chelsea is looking to strengthen manager Graham Potter's team even more, but they have not yet added a new central midfielder.

Enzo Fernandez, the star of Argentina's World Cup team, has been the subject of renewed negotiations with Benfica, but the Portuguese club is adamant that the midfielder will not leave until his £105.6 million release clause is met.

According to The Times, Chelsea have been in discussions with Brighton for Caicedo this January, but a bid of around £50 million was rejected last week.

Brighton is understood to be holding out for a fee in the region of £100 million for the Ecuador international.

The report added that Potter has been the one driving Chelsea’s interest in Caicedo.
