Danny Murphy, a former Liverpool player, has criticized Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta's choice to substitute 15-year-old Ethan Nwaneri during the Gunners' 3-0 victory over Brentford last weekend in the Premier League.

Murphy thinks Arteta erred when he substituted Nwaneri in the match against Brentford, adding that the Spanish manager ought to have brought in players who are two or three years older than the midfielder.

After coming off the bench in overtime against Brentford, Nwaneri broke Harvey Elliott's record for being the youngest player in Premier League history.

Nwaneri is a "super talent," but Murphy disagrees with Arteta's selection of the player for his first-team squad and use of him against Brentford.

When asked about Nwaneri's participation against Brentford on Sunday, Murphy told talkSPORT, "I'm not convinced it is the best move for a young player, I'm really not.
“I have seen superstars come on the scene at a young age and thrive and go on and carry on, but there have also been a lot who have fallen by the wayside."
“He is obviously a super-talent, doing well in training and impressing everybody, but surely they have got other 18, 19 and 20-year-olds who are further ahead in their development who could have gone on the bench."
“I think Arteta is probably trying to keep a young superstar happy, but I’m not sure about it.”
