Former Nigeria midfielder John Mikel Obi has called on Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim to part ways with Brazilian midfielder Casemiro, claiming the player is past his prime.
Speaking on his podcast, Obi One, Mikel reflected on Casemiro’s declining performance since his €70.65 million move from Real Madrid to Manchester United in 2022. Despite an impressive debut season with 7 goals and 6 assists in 51 appearances, the 32-year-old’s form has taken a noticeable dip.
Manager Ruben Amorim appears to share similar concerns, often favoring Manuel Ugarte over the experienced midfielder.
"In the Premier League, you will get found out," Mikel explained. "It’s the most challenging league in the world—fast-paced, dynamic, and relentless. If you’re not young, quick, mobile, or energetic enough, you won’t survive. Unfortunately, that’s what’s happening to Casemiro."
Mikel acknowledged Casemiro’s incredible achievements, including his decorated stint with Real Madrid, but stressed the urgency for Manchester United to act.
"I admire the guy. He’s won everything there is to win, but his legs are gone. One good game doesn’t change the fact that his best days are behind him. United need a fresh, dynamic midfielder to keep up with the demands of the Premier League."
With the January transfer window looming, Amorim and Manchester United may soon have a critical decision to make regarding Casemiro’s future.
