The newly appointed Manchester United captain, Bruno Fernandes, has revealed his interaction with former captain Harry Maguire.
Maguire came out on Sunday to announce that the Red Devils’ boss, Erik ten Hag, had removed him as captain of the club.
He was made United captain within six months after he joined the club from Leicester City.
But his performance dropped, with the England defender starting just 16 games across competitions for Manchester United under Erik ten Hag last season.
Fernandes was announced as the new skipper at Old Trafford last week, and after Manchester United’s pre-season friendly against Arsenal, the Portugal international was asked about his conversation with Maguire after the captaincy switch.
He said, according to Fabrizio Romano, “Harry congratulated me on the new captain's election, and he said he is really happy for me.
“I understand his position is not the best at the moment. It has to be difficult for him, but he had a great moment with me.”
