After failing to acquire RB Leipzig defender Josko Gvardiol this summer, Chelsea will make another attempt in the January transfer window.
The Premier League team will reportedly make another attempt to sign the 20-year-old, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, who also received confirmation from Christian Falk of Bild.
According to reports, Chelsea made an offer of up to €90 million for the Croatian international, but he decided to sign a one-year extension to remain in Germany.
Gvardiol, however, is anticipated to be the first acquisition under Graham Potter, who took over for Thomas Tuchel on Thursday.
In the central defense position this summer, Chelsea has already hired Kalidou Koulibaly and Wesley Fofana.
But they will approach the centre-back in January again and persuade him to reconsider a move to the Premier League.
The young defender, who made 29 Bundesliga appearances last season, could have a long-term future at Stamford Bridge, with Thiago Silva turning 38 this month.
