The best holding midfielder in the world, according to former Barcelona midfielder Arturo Vidal, is Inter Miami's Sergio Busquets rather than Manchester United's Casemiro.
In the past ten years, Casemiro and Busquets have both been regarded as two of the best holding midfielders.
The two have had productive careers at El Clasico rivals Real Madrid and Barcelona.
Busquets played in 722 games for Barcelona in various competitions, scoring 18 goals and assisting on 12 others, while Casemiro played in 336 games for Real Madrid, scoring 31 goals and assisting on 29 others.
When asked which of the two iconic midfielders he prefers, Vidal said (via Barca Universal):
“In all teams, the pivot is always the one who controls the tempo, the one with the most technique, and the one who moves the ball.
“Casemiro doesn’t do any of that, which is why I prefer Busquets.”
