Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong has reacted to rumours linking him with a move to Manchester United this summer and insists he is "very happy" at Camp Nou.
Manchester United wanted to sign De Jong last summer as he was one of Erik ten Hag’s top targets, but the Netherlands international refused to move to Old Trafford despite both clubs agreeing to a €85 million (£72 million) fee.
His failure to move to Old Trafford paved the way for United to agree a £70 million deal with Real Madrid for Casemiro.
The Red Devils have returned with a renewed interest in the 25-year-old United ahead of the summer transfer window, but the former Ajax star has made it clear that his preference is to remain at Barcelona.
De Jong was asked about a potential move to Manchester United this summer after Barcelona’s 2-1 win over Real Madrid at Camp Nou on Sunday evening, and he told Ziggo Sport: “No, I don’t think I’m going to make that step.
“You never know, of course, but at the moment I am very happy in Barcelona.”
