Premier League title winner Tony Gale feels the Portuguese coach is short on ideas and 'looking for an out just a few months into his Old Trafford reign

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho looks like a man thats trying to get sacked, according to Premier League title winner Tony Gale.

The Portuguese is only a few months into the contract he penned upon his arrival at Old Trafford over the summer, and recently expressed a desire to work past the end of an initial three-year deal.

He is struggling to light a fire under the Red Devils, though, and will continue to face uncomfortable questions for as long as his side falter.

Mourinho has also shown signs of the pressure starting to tell of late, with his latest touchline outburst resulting in him being sent to stands during a frustrating 1-1 draw with West Ham.

And Gale, who lifted the top-flight crown with Blackburn in 1994-95, believes the former Chelsea boss is running out of ideas and is looking for an out after refusing to commit himself fully to a new life in Manchester.

He told Sky Sports: "He looks like a man thats trying to get sacked to me.

He hasnt got a house. Sort yourself a house and get the family down. He just looks like he is looking for an out.

"This is normally what happens to Jose two or three years down the line into a job, but now two or three months in. I cant quite understand whats going on.

"I was at the game on Sunday sitting with the West Ham fans thinking it was the quietest I had ever seen Old Trafford. [There were] 70,000 people there and it was so quiet, there was such a deflated feeling.

"I dont think the antics [being sent to the stands] were designed to get the crowd going like [Jurgen] Klopp does, I just think he didnt know what to do."

United have taken just one win from their last seven Premier League outings, with stalemates starting to prove costly.

The Red Devils have been held in four successive top-flight fixtures at Old Trafford, with a once fearsome venue no longer viewed as a fortress by visiting sides.

Mourinho needs to find a spark from somewhere, with his side now sat eight points adrift of the top four and Champions League qualification, and 11 behind table-topping Chelsea.
