Newcastle United Women have announced the recruitment of four new players in order to strengthen their bid for the FA Women’s National League Division One North championship.

The Lady Magpies narrowly lost out on promotion after coming in second place behind Liverpool Feds in the league standings the previous season.

Although head coach Becky Langley was unable to disguise her dissatisfaction, she is hopeful that her four new additions may help NUFC Women advance this time around.

Grace Boyes and Daisy Burt both join Tyne-Wear rivals Sunderland, while Freya Bailes and Emma Wallis come from Durham University.

And Langley isn’t expected to be finished there, with further reinforcements expected in the coming weeks.

NUFC Women, who were watched by over 20,000 fans at St James’ Park in May, are making big strides on and off the pitch with Amanda Staveley and new owners delivering on their promise of investment.

Earlier this month, the Lady Magpies launched their first reserve team since 2016, which aims to ensure young girls in the North East are given a platform to progress as footballers while also having a direct pathway into the first team.

The aim is to have Newcastle in the Women’s Super League in the next five years.
