Former Paris Saint-Germain manager Mauricio Pochettino has identified what Argentina must do with captain Lionel Messi to win the 2022 FIFA World Cup final tie against France on Sunday.
Argentina and Messi are on the verge of winning this year’s World Cup.
La Albiceleste will clash with France in the World Cup final on Sunday evening in Qatar.
However, Pochettino, who coached Messi at PSG in the past, believes that the rest of the Argentina players need to play for the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner in order to have any chance of winning the World Cup over France.
“When you've got [Lionel] Messi in your team, you've got to run for him." And when you've got the ball, you've got to give it to him as soon as possible so that he can create something. So the players know what they need to do in every single moment: give Messi everything he needs to be decisive like he was on Tuesday night against Croatia.
“It has been one of the keys of this side [the Argentina team], how they all believe that by playing for Messi, they can win the World Cup,” Pochettino said (via The Athletic).
